Beauty on the Go: Travel Essentials

untitledWorking in the travel and tourism industry, constantly being on the road and on the go is part of the job. It’s an amazing way to meet new people, see new places, and learn new things– all of which helps me do my job better.

As wonderful as traveling is, it certainly can disrupt your normal routine: sleep schedule, diet, exercise habits- even your day-to-day beauty regime. Whether you’re traveling for a couple of days or for a couple of weeks, it’s important to continue to take care of yourself even though you are away from the comforts of your home.

Some of my favorite travel essentials come from my favorite local beauty and skincare store, Elements of Carytown ( I’ve been a loyal customer of Elements ever since my good friend Christina of Tiramisu for Breakfast introduced me to it!

Here are some of my favorite products as a gal-on-the-go.

REN Keep Young and Beautiful Instant Firming Beauty Shot

After hours on a plane or in the car, my skin always looks a little…well… tired. This firming serum gives your skin an instant hydrating boost and glow – it’s like an espresso for your face! The Beauty Shot especially comes in handy if you’ve only got a few minutes between checking in to your hotel and zipping to your next event. A little goes a long way, so this small bottle will last you a long time (which means it’s also TSA 3-1-1 compliant!)[$54, click here to purchase].

Malin + Goetz Essential Travel Kit

I was first introduced to Malin + Goetz while staying at the TriBeCa Grand on a work trip to New York City a few years ago. I’ve loved the brand ever since! This colorful combo kit has literally everything you need for your daily routine: face wash, moisturizer, body wash, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. This little kit is great for people with sensitive skin, or if you’re picky about hotel-brand toiletries. You can trust that you’ll love everything in this kit! [$30, click here to purchase].

Erno Laszlo Hydrating Cleansing Ritual Trio

I love all of Erno’s Cleansing Ritual Trios (and anything Erno, period, for that matter!) I especially love this set for traveling, especially if you travel by plane. Dry air and high altitude absolutely zap your skin of all its moisture and inner glow, so it’s imperative to hydrate and nourish once you’ve landed. Dry, stressed skin will feel luxuriously soft and moisturized after use. It’s a great pick-me-up after a long day of travel! [$45, click here to purchase].

TOCCA Bianca La Dolce Vita Travel Set

The TSA 3-1-1 rule really irritates me sometimes, because it means that typically, I can’t bring along my favorite perfume in large format. Luckily, one of my favorite scents, TOCCA’s Bianca, comes in a sweet little travel set, complete with a body scrub, body lotion, and eau de parfum. Spritz a little on before and after travel to smell fabulous all day long. [$40, click here to purchase].

COOLA ECO-LUX Sport Continuous Spray Suncreen SPF 50 Guava Mango – Travel Size

Even in the winter, it’s important to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful UV rays. I love how summery and tropical this sunscreen smells – and I can’t wait to continue using it when the weather gets cooler to remind me of sunnier, warmer days! [$24, click here to purchase].

Style Inspiration | The Carolina Inn

Happy Monday! The warm weather is finally upon us – isn’t it lovely? I am so excited for spring this year!

Last weekend, my husband and I traveled down to Chapel Hill, NC for the wedding of my beautiful sister-in-law, Carol, and her sweet fiance Duncan. The wedding took place at the charming Carolina Inn — a Chapel Hill institution. We had a suite at this beautiful hotel, and I was blown away by the sweet, Southern, traditional yet modern decor. Whoever did the interior design for this gorgeous inn: bravo!  [Read more…]

100HappyDays: Day One

As we hit the Two-Month mark of marital bliss this week, I got to thinking about how awesome the past year or so has been. It’s been an incredible one so far. Some of my favorite highlights?

1. We got engaged.

2. I got my dream job, celebrating and promoting the state I love so dearly. I work with INCREDIBLE people. I’m still pinching myself that this job is mine.

3. We moved into a beautiful home in the lovely, historic neighborhood of Church Hill, and we are 2 blocks from this amazing view from Libby Hill Park.

4. We got married.

5. We had an awesome, unforgettable honeymoon in St. Barth.

6. We have the BEST friends and family, a fact which I’m reminded of on a daily basis.

7. We have the sweetest, silliest dog in the world, who teaches us every day about loyalty, unconditional love, and finding joy in the simple things (like enjoying the wind in your hair, drinking plenty of water, and the importance of a good nap.)

8. My husband and I are happy, healthy, and have had the BEST time together on our many adventures.

Yes, there is a LOT to be grateful for. And there are even more exciting things just around the corner for us!

Sometimes, though, it’s easy to forget all of those blessings and to get caught up in the little frustrating things in life. A bad day at work, a disagreement with a friend or family member, struggling to stay on course with diet and exercise, bills, rent, a bad night’s sleep. There are also the times where there are bigger issues at hand: an illness in the family, a friend who’s going through a really hard time, busy schedules interfering with the so-called “honeymoon phase.”

That last one has been a biggie for me and my husband the past few months. Between both of our travel schedules, some days and even weeks can seem lonely and hard when we don’t get to see each other very often. My husband is currently working on a campaign, which keeps him away from home a lot during the week and a fair amount on the weekends. I realized last night, though, that we only have 100 days to go until this chapter is over, and a new one may begin. That number got me thinking about participating in a social campaign I’ve seen all over Instagram, Twitter and Facebook recently. #100HappyDays.

Here’s the premise:

We live in times when super-busy schedules have become something to boast about. While the speed of life increases, there is less and less time to enjoy the moment that you are in. The ability to appreciate the moment, the environment and yourself in it, isthe base for the bridge towards long term happiness of any human being.

So, for the next 100 days, as we deal with the stresses of campaign life, work schedules, travel schedules, social schedules, household chores, bills, rent, and everyday stresses, I’m going to find one moment a day to capture and share.
Here’s my Day One. Rainy Sunday morning curled up with my loves: Millie, Paul, and coffee! 🙂 A quiet moment during a busy, busy week.
Want to join me? Here’s how. Plain simple!
every day submit a picture of what made you happy!

It can be anything from a meet-up with a friend to a very tasty cake in the nearby coffee place, from a feeling of being at home after a hard day to a favor you did to a stranger.

#100happyday challenge is for you – not for anyone else.
It is not a happiness competition or a showing off contest. If you try to please / make others jealous via your pictures – you lose without even starting. Same goes for cheating.
So, cheers to #100HappyDays — and many, many more after that. I look forward to seeing your Happy pictures, too!

JetSet | My favorite travel essentials

Lauren Conrad always looks effortlessly chic when traveling!

G r e e t i n g s from the Big Apple! I am in New York City for a few days on business this week and am loving the weather up here. I love the South and our signature southern summers, but a break from the heat and humidity is very welcome!

My travel experience today was one of the best I’ve had in a while (even though my flight was delayed 45 minutes). Biggest factor? Comfort. Second biggest? I’ve become a pro at the Two Night Suitcase Packing Game. Travel seems sooo much smoother when you’ve got your suitcase act together, packing only the must-haves, and getting your carry-on essentials down to the, well, essentials.
This is the second trip I’ve taken with my new Diane von Furstenberg Private Jet Fold Over Tote (thank you Erin & Eddie!). It is THE BEST for a two to three night getaway, and I highly recommend it!

I’ve also finally got travel style down to a science as well — a work bag/purse/carry-all, folding Ray-Bans that fit in a case smaller than a camera, comfy clothes, easy slip-off shoes, and a watch to make sure I’m not running late.

Thankfully, practical travel wear can be cute. Here are my favorite travel essentials for easy, breezy jet-setting.

1. White T-Shirt (I “borrowed” one of my husband’s undershirts for a little extra room and comfort!)

2. 1969 Sexy Boyfriend Jeans | GAP

3. Wayfarer Folding Classic | Ray-Ban

4. Plated Pink Stud Earrings | kate spade new york

5. Gramercy Grand Watch | kate spade new york

6. Maey Bow Thong Sandals | I.N.C.

7. Le Pliage Tote | Longchamp

What are your travel essentials? What are some of your “musts” before you get on a plane or hop in a car for a road trip?

Happy Travels!
