A New Beginning…

It’s been a little quiet around here on Sweet Caroline over the past few weeks. Things have been non-stop, go-go-go, but I’ve also held off on posting for a while because the temptation was too great to share our big news. Now that it’s Facebook and Insta-official…

We bought a house!!!

Paul and I have been searching high and low for the perfect home in Richmond to start this next chapter in our adventure. We wanted something historic but updated. Large but not too. Something we can grow into and make our own. A home that was great for entertaining and for the just-us nights. And we finally found it! Endless thanks and gratitude to our wonderful agent, Philip Innes of RE/MAX Commonwealth. We can’t say enough good things about our experience buying our first home with Philip!

A few weeks ago, we went on our anniversary trip to the lovely Northern Neck. We were enjoying a sunny, delicious breakfast in the courtyard of the infinitely charming Hope & Glory Inn when a home in North Side popped up in our email. We planned to see it that afternoon when we returned to Richmond. Then we went to see it again the next morning. By that evening, we were under contract! We instantly fell in love with the tree-lined street, beautiful landscaping, sun-filled rooms, and historic charm.  We could just see ourselves living there.

It has been a whirlwind month since then, with a superfast close and lots of decisions and planning and excitement and nerves and negotiations and crossed fingers.

We closed on Friday, and we are officially homeowners now! We will desperately miss our beloved Church Hill, but are so looking forward to making new memories in our new home. And being so close to Dot’s Back Inn, Enoteca Sogno, Little House Green Grocery, Once Upon a Vine and more will certainly ease the transition…1617879_1_1464182488

I hope you’ll follow along here as we begin to make this home our very own– from new paint to new furniture, we are so excited for what is to come.

Especially exciting (and daunting!!) will be our Adventures in Gardening (we are total amateurs in this department!) The previous owners took immaculate care of the garden and yard, which is filled with a gorgeous magnolia, liriope, peonies, hydrangea, lilies, roses, aucuba, fig tree, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, hostas, and so much more. They also left us a tomato plant and a basil plant to get our new garden started– so sweet!

I’m also chomping at the bit to get this gorgeous Phillip Jeffries grasscloth I found on eBay up on the walls of our dining room. Shout out to my sweet, dear friend Meredith for the inspiration and guidance!

I really like the idea of keeping this room as a big, bold statement room but in a moody color.I love this turquoise grasscloth wallpaper and can’t wait to see how it will look on the walls. Here’s the before… tune in soon for the after!

Cheers to new beginnings….
