Recipe | skinny bang bang shrimp


If you’re like me, there is nothing yummier than some good seafood… Unless of course it’s fried and served in a delicious, creamy sauce, like Bonefish Grill’s famous Bang Bang Shrimp.

My friends introduced this to me a couple of years ago, and it is, well, simply amazing. Unfortunately for those of us watching our waistlines? Half of an order packs about 800 calories (they say a full order will feed 4, but really, it’s a dish to split).

Here’s my “skinny” version that packs all the flavor but not the fat:

-1 bag of frozen shrimp, detailed and peeled

-2 T light mayonnaise
-2 T sweet chili paste
-2 T Sriracha
-1 T dried parsley
-1 T sautéed garlic
-salt to taste

-iceberg lettuce, ripped
-red cabbage, thinly sliced
-carrots, cut in thin strips

-1/3 cup finely chopped green onions

Thaw your shrimp by placing them in a colander and running cool (but not cold) water over them for 2 minutes.

In a separate bowl, mix your ingredients for the sauce and stir well. Set aside.

On your dinner plate, artfully arrange the garnish as a bed for the shrimp.

In a medium skillet, heat 1 T oil over medium high heat until hot. Add the shrimp and cook until pink all the way through.

Toss the cooked shrimp in your sauce and arrange on the garnish beds. Sprinkle green onions on top. Serve hot.

Makes 3 servings.
